Navigating Your Path to ADHD Assessment and Support

We understand that seeking support for ADHD in the UK can feel complex, often involving long waits and navigating different pathways. The NHS Right to Choose (RTC) scheme in England is an important option that helps many people access assessments more quickly within an NHS framework.

At ADHD Specialist, led by Dr. Stefan Ivantu, transparency is important to us. We want to clearly explain our dedicated approach to care and clarify our position regarding RTC: ADHD Specialist operates as an independent private clinic and does not currently provide services funded via the NHS Right to Choose pathway.

This decision stems from our commitment to a specific model of care – one that is deeply personalised, comprehensive, and led directly by Consultant Psychiatrists, allowing us to provide a level of in-depth support focused on lasting positive outcomes.

Our Philosophy: Deeply Personalised, Consultant-Led Care

Our core belief is that truly effective ADHD care centres entirely around you as an individual. We focus on:

  • Direct Consultant Psychiatrist Leadership: Your journey with us, starting from the comprehensive initial assessment through to ongoing management, is directly overseen and conducted by an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with specialist expertise in ADHD and co-occurring conditions.
  • Holistic & Integrated Support: We look beyond just diagnosis and medication. While medication can be a vital tool, our approach integrates psychoeducation, evidence-based therapeutic strategies (like CBT techniques and coaching principles), positive technology use guidance, and lifestyle adjustments within your consultations.
  • Goal-Oriented & Strengths-Based: We work collaboratively with you not just to manage challenges, but to identify your unique strengths and develop practical strategies tailored to achieving your personal, academic, and professional goals.
  • Building Understanding & Trust: We dedicate significant time (including our standard 2.5-hour initial assessment) to thoroughly understand your experiences and build a strong, supportive therapeutic relationship within a discreet and confidential environment.

Why This Model Differs from Standard RTC Pathways

We have chosen to structure our service specifically to deliver this intensive, consultant-led, holistic model. While the Right to Choose scheme provides a valuable route for accessing standardised assessments and care within the NHS funding structure, our approach encompasses a broader scope and depth.

The time, resources, and integrated therapeutic components embedded within our standard consultations extend beyond what is typically commissioned and funded under the RTC framework. Our commitment is to maintain this specific model, ensuring every individual receives the extensive consultant time and personalised, multi-faceted support we believe is essential for optimal outcomes, particularly for those seeking this level of comprehensive care. Our focus remains firmly on the quality and individualisation of care, rather than volume.

Requirement for Initial Assessment (Even with Prior Diagnosis)

Please note: Even if you have received an ADHD diagnosis previously from another provider, an initial comprehensive assessment process with one of our Consultant Psychiatrists is still required to join our practice. This essential step allows us to gain a thorough, firsthand understanding of your unique history, presentation, current needs, and treatment goals. It ensures we can take full clinical responsibility for your care and deliver truly personalised treatment plans tailored for the best possible outcomes. We believe this in-depth evaluation is crucial for establishing effective care within our service, regardless of previous assessments.
